EuP
What is this all about EuP?
The correct name of the Energy using Products Directive is: "DIRECTIVE 2005/32/EC OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL of 6 July 2005 establishing a framework for the setting of ecodesign requirements for energy-using products …"

The EuP Directive is one of the legislative regulations to fulfill the Kyoto protocol.

It is a framework directive. That means the European Commission is allowed to establish specific measures inside this framework for certain products and product groups (LOTs) with a relevant eco impact to environment. These measures are bound to the CE-marking, our ticket inside the European market. Hence if products do not fulfill the requirements set out in the specific measures manufacturer break a law.

Here the WILO Group and its products come into play. The European Commission identified pumps as being relevant for environment (LOT11). And this is true. About 15% of the overall consumption of electricity in Europe is caused by pumps.
The EuP-measure for circulators has been worked out with the European Commission in the last three years inside Europump, the European Pump Manufacturer Association.

This measure will save energy consumption in Europe of about 23 TWh or 11 Mio t CO2 each year. This is the overall consumption of EU's member State Ireland.
Only high efficiency products (A-Class) such as the WILO Stratos series can be sold after 2013 in Europe. A second step in August 2015 includes product integrated circulators (OEM-Market). The level of minimum efficiency is raised even above A-Class at that time.

The EuP Circulator Measure in brief:
The EuP Circulator measure (No 641/2009) foresees a new calculation scheme of the so called EEI. EEI means Energy Efficiency Index. Today the EEI is the basis for grouping the circulators into A (EEI < 0,4) down to G (EEI > 1,4) Class. From 2013 on only A-Class circulators will be allowed to put on the European market. For several technical and political reasons the existing EEI for A-Class (EEI < 0,4) will become a new EEI2013 < 0,27 for a circulator with a hydraulic power of about 70W.
The complete legislation in brief is the following:
 • Scope is all wet-running circulators, stand-alone and product integrated. Drinking water circulators are exempted but have to be marked accordingly.
 • For stand-alone circulators 1.1.2013⇒EEI2013 < 0.27
 • Stand-alone and product Integrated 1.8.2015⇒EEI2013 < 0.23
 • EEI2013 on name plate
 • Benchmark = 0,20 to be provided in manuals
 • Todays energy class-labelling becomes obsolete
 • Until 2020 identical spare part circulators (with the reference to the final product) integrated into products can be delivered

The effect is that our OEM products based on asynchronous motors, such as RSL 25/6 Ku  will be forbidden latest 1.8.2015. Instead we are only allowed to sell high efficiency products like the Stratos range.
